The hard drive is 2 adata SDD raid0 off the mobo Deleteing the Drivers was a last attempt I wish I had a system Image backup How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to VincentPascoe's post on April 10, Nothing I tried fixed the problem and I'm about to do a clean install. Fingers crossed for a miracle. For those that are interested, I'll list what I tried that did not work.
Afterward, I'll describe how I got here for benefit of others with the same problem. SYS hang in Safe Mode boot. SYS System Restore -- couldn't do this since I had to reimage the HDD and the system image apparently does not transfer system restore points System Image -- actually introduced this problem in the first place I reimaged trying to fix system hangs and slowness.
Heavy sigh Go figure. Afterward, I uninstalled a number of obsolete programs and, of course, several Windows Automatic Updates were installed.
At some point during all this, uninstaller hanged. After a cold start, the system booted but with very sluggish system response and frequent hangs up to 30 sec.
System Performance monitor indicated numerous hard faults in memory. No joy. Thank God! Tried to revert to earlier system restore points. No change. Very strange! Here I should have made a full back up with Acronis or Norton or anything but I didn't, since I had a fairly recent Win 7 System Image and regular backup files made before this malfunction sequence. Decided to reimage my drives. Tested network access first, double checked I copied my files, deleted the system volume and went for a fresh start.
Please reboot. Selecting "OK" clears the error box and leaves you with a mouse pointer and nothing else. Booting into Safe Mode was really fun. In fact, I could only make the Repair Disk boot from a power-off start. Even they would Black Screen on me. This is from a CD boot, so why????
Suspect hardware trouble and pull video card. Same exact error. Other cards in the parts bin are AGP etc Looking over your wiki, you have been testing with different video cards, right?
What steps did you take to dig out the ATI drivers when switching to nVidia? Neither company is perfect about removing absolutely everything they install.
Not many steps were taken to dig out ATI drivers - that was several months ago and everything has been fine since then but always a possibility. By the way, I'm with you that there are a lot of things that should be deconfigured or disabled to make a specific Windows 7 or Server system more efficient for particular tasks. It's just that System Restore is probably not one of them.
I've personally turned off indexing, deconfigured HomeGroup networking, disabled UAC, minimized desktop chrome, deconfigured a number of "handy new" Aero features like Aero Peek, disabled generation of 8. Since you also seem interested in getting the most out of your system and assuming you get it working I'll be happy to eMail you a copy of a guide I've written that describes how to do these things.
I assume most will be applicable to Windows Server as well. You can contact me through my web site, which is listed in my profile here. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Windows Client. There are a half dozen threads from the past several years addressing the same issue - none have a solution or explain what the cause is. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
In safe mode the startup stops at ATiPcie. This morning at startup the popup with a black screen appeared. I have tried all of the suggestions posted on the treads.
Events yesterday: Attempted to install autocadsp1x The only web browsing is to read the news and email. Note that this machine has a PCI-E solid state harddrive in Raid 0 - occasionally it triggers a disk check at startup due what has been assumed a driver issue that results in a poor shutdown, it has not been anything more than annoying - one of the other threads had a similar SSD raid 0 setup. I removed the startup script and ran a checkdisk in case they were conflicting.
I have access to the drive through a backup drive running the same OS; the specifics of the machine setup are documented here on a wiki page ceesoftware:settings:tower [CIFE Wiki] Finding a solution or at least the cause so it can be avoided next time is the goal.
Friday, September 9, PM. What video card do you have in your system? What display driver version is installed?
